SHAYNE O’DONNELL
CONSTANT KEENING TO WHISPERED LAMENTS
30 APRIL – 21 MAY 2022
GALLERY 2
A close-up of a painting showing a number of purple, red, pink and brown splats made by the impact of mulberries on the surface of a sheet of white paper. The splats are close in density with some colours and shapes splattering across others.
Shayne O‘Donnell, ‘Mulberry Field #3’ (Detail), 2022. Mulberry pigment on paper.

These large works on paper are in essence a memento mori.  From their vivid beginnings to their inevitable fading, it is a documentation of process.

The gestural manner reflects a fall
A death in a moment

Hand and mind in motion
Both tender and abrupt

A constant keening gives way to whispered laments
As fruit dries and fades.
